Murray makes it through to quarters after epic showdown under Centre Court roof
Andy Murray doesn't get it all his own way as Britain's big hope takes almost four hours to proceed to quarter-final clash.
Andy Murray toyed with the emotions of his adoring public during nearly four hours of Centre Court action but the Betfair layers were convinced of his supremacy - he never went above [1.6] to win the match against Stanislas Warwinka.
The world no.3 took five sets to get past his Swiss opponent in a pulsating encounter played under the showpiece court's new roof which finished at 10.38pm.
A pre-match [1.07] chance, Murray drifted to [1.6] in the second set after losing the first 6-2, with Wawrinka trading at a low of [2.68].
The great British hope won the next two sets and traded at [1.03] to win when holding break points in fourth set, with Wawrinka drifting to [29.0]
But just when it looked as though a fourth set tie break was coming, the world no.19 broke service to lead 6-5 in the fourth set, and served to level the match. With both players holding two sets apiece, Murray was a [1.36] shot to make it through with Wawrinka available at [3.75].
It all seemed set for Murray after he broke to take a 3-0 lead in the final set with Betfair punters willing to back him at [1.07].
But as seems standard for a Brit favourite at Wimbledon Murray found a way to falter, with his opponent levelling the scores at 3-3, and the crowd favourite drifted out to [1.54].
Yet where others may have crumbled, the Scotsman stayed firm, winning the next three games to seal his quarter-final place against Juan-Carlos Ferrero.
