New look Leafs host Devils

The Betting Advantage looks at tonight's NHL game between the New Jersey Devils and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will come into tonight's game with a completely different line-up to the one seen on Saturday when they hosted the Vancouver Canucks.

On Sunday, the Leafs made two blockbuster trades. The first was with the Calgary Flames as the Leafs sent forwards Matt Stajan, Niklas Hagman, Jamal Mayers, and defenseman Ian White in exchange for Fredrik Sjostrom, Dion Phaneuf, and Keith Aulie. The Leafs lost some offensive power there as Hagman led the Leafs in goals and Stajan was second on the team in points.

Trade number two was with the Anaheim Ducks. Toronto sent Vesa Toskala and Jason Blake to Anaheim in return for Jean-Sebastien Giguere. Unloading Blake's contract was the big issue for General Manager Brian Burke here.

In the long term these trades will likely be quite positive for the Leafs. However, we are looking short term right now; in fact, we are looking at tonight's game. The Leafs have dealt some offensive talent that they cannot replace right now.

Another factor we have to look at for this game is that there will be new players in the line-up who may not be familiar with the system Toronto play. It always takes some time for players to become acquainted with one another. Considering these factors and the fact that Toronto have dropped six straight, I don't think we can expect too much from Toronto tonight, especially playing against the New Jersey Devils.

The Devils just beat the Leafs 5-4 on Friday night. I am expecting more of a lopsided game tonight with these circumstances. I'm going with the Devils here for 1.72 (-139).
