NHL Predictions

Flames are ice cold

The Betting Advantage looks to tonight's NHL game between the St. Louis Blues and the Calgary Flames in order to find the betting value.

The Calgary Flames are losers of eight of their nine past games. They are playing some terrible hockey right now, with problems both on offense and defense. Their offense has been non-existent in their past two games. Thursday the Flames lost to the Chicago Blackhawks 3-1, and exactly one week ago they lost to the San Jose Sharks 9-1.

Calgary captain and leading scorer, Jerome Iginla, has been held without a goal in ten straight games. This is the longest drought of Iginla's career in ten years. If the Flames aren't getting scoring from Iginla they get in trouble, as we have seen. The Flames just don't have the scoring depth that most other NHL teams have.

Over the past three seasons the Flames have had the NHL's second best winning percentage at home. You wouldn't have known this by watching the Flames lately. A loss tonight would be their sixth straight at home. Calgary haven't gone six straight games at home without a win since 2000.

The St. Louis Blues are playing decent hockey as of late, winning five of their past eight games. They are slowly creeping up on the last playoff spot, which is currently held by the Flames.

St. Louis can be tough to play against because you can't just key in on one or two guys to shut them down. The Blues have eight different players who currently have at least ten goals.

I think tonight the Blues should be able to handle this struggling Flames team. When things are going bad they can be tough to turn around so I'll be looking for opportunities to bet against the Flames over the short term. Calgary play on Wednesday and Thursday on the road.

Back the Blues tonight for 2.46 (+146) in the Match Odds market. You're getting really great value with that bet.
