Golf Selections: PGA Grand Slam Tips
Steve Rawlings takes a look at the golf odds ahead of the PGA Grand Slam.
There's an added bonus for golf fans this week with the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, starting tonight. The event is staged over two rounds and two days and is solely for the year's four Major winners - Angel Cabrera, Lucas Glover, Stuart Cink and Y E Yang.
The event moved from Hawaii to Bermuda in 2007 and this year it moves to a new course, the 6824 yard, par 70, Port Royal Course in Southampton, England; a spectacular venue perched above the Atlantic Ocean. Although exposed to the elements, the players shouldn't be too inconvenienced this week according to the latest weather forecast.
It's a very relaxed event where the TV guys interact with the players and often stop play for a chat! Of the four players lining up, Y E Yang holds the least appeal. Understandably after his shock win at the US PGA, he's gone almost completely off the boil.
Lucas Glover has also seen his form slump of late and I have to admit, I'm not a massive fan of his anyway. Elsewhere, Cink has struggled a bit since breaking the hearts of every golf fan whilst beating Tom Watson at the Open back in July.
The most recent form for both Glover and Cink was at the Presidents Cup, where the pair lost on all three occasions that they partnered each other. Glover needed the generosity of Vijay Singh to gain his half a point and Cink's only joy was a half point earned alongside Hunter Mahan and his singles win against the woefully out of form Adam Scott.
Angel Cabrera, winner of the 2006 US Open, is the only one of the four to have played this event before, winning it two years ago, when he beat Padraig Harrington in a play-off and I'm pretty sure he'll be determined to win it again.
I get the feeling he'll take it more seriously than the American pair and although it may not be the most serious of events, El Pato is a very worthy favorite and I was more than happy to take [3.35].
