Stafford hype increases whilst the Rams go up for Sale

Graham Lewis takes a look at the latest news in and around the NFL

Detroit Lions

New Detroit Lions Head Coach Jim Schwartz was not giving too much away when talking about number one draft pick Matthew Stafford this week. At the end of the organized team activities he said of Stafford...

"When he's the best quarterback and he's ready, he's going to start. He needs to pass both of those", Schwartz said Monday. "It doesn't matter if he's ready if he's not the best. And if he's the best but he's not ready, (he won't start)".

There is a buzz around Stafford (quarterback) and for good reason. I for one hope that it works out and we get to see him play for the Lions this year.

The Detroit Lions appear to be taking things very seriously to avoid a repeat of their dismal season last year. They have set their targets on the play-offs, and while it might seem like a stretch the Miami Dolphins proved that it is possible to turn things around, and fast.

With the Lions currently available at odds of [70.0] to back in the NFC Conference market, they could make an attractive outside bet with a view to trading out as the season progresses. Of course, you would have to weigh it up and do your homework, but a lot of people made money on the Dolphins last season with early trades like this.

St. Louis Rams

The Rams are up for sale, and the owners want to sell sooner rather than later. This week they have decided to retain the services of investment firm Goldman Sachs to seek out potential buyers.

This move could well see the end of the Rams in St Louis, with the most likely long term destination being a return to LA.

The Rams are currently at odds of [50.0] in the NFC Conference market and I would expect this to drift slightly. News like this is never good for a team's performance and I would be looking for the Rams to leap-frog them in the odds race this season.

The Rams are for sale for an estimated $930 million, so if you have ever fancied yourself as a team owner and have deep pockets, you could be in luck!
