NFL Week 3 Preview: San Francisco 49ers @ Minnesota Vikings
Graham Lewis previews the week 3 NFL game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Minnesota Vikings.
This looks set to be a fantastic game to watch. The two 2-0 teams meet on Sunday and while it has not come as such a big surprise that the Vikings have won both of their games so far, it is a surprise that the 49ers have.
There were signs that the 49ers were undergoing a turnaround at the end of last season. During the off-season things also seemed to be going smoothly, and now it seems like it is all paying off. Not only are the 49ers winning, but they have been doing it in style.
Mike Singletary has really done a good job in turning things around and bringing new hope to the 49ers. He will be looking for the first 3-0 start since 1998 here on Sunday.
Most of the team news coming in surrounding the 49ers this week has been to do with still unsigned 10th overall draft pick Michael Crabtree. This week the 49ers have accused the Jets of talking to him. I can't help feeling that Crabtree should take the deal that San Francisco are offering and prove to them that he is worth more by doing his talking on the field.
Frank Gore rushed for over 200 yards last weekend, but also picked up an ankle injury. This isn't expected to affect his performance here though. If he can find holes in the Vikings defence in the same way he did the Seahawks then it might just tip the game in San Francisco's favor.
Shaun Hill may need to step up at quarterback to help lead a victory. While he has not clocked up massive passing yards, he is capable and should be able to turn it on when needed.
The key in Minnesota seems to be Adrian Peterson. He picked up a back injury in last week's game against the Lions, but he has played this down as not being a problem and is not expected to miss the game.
Brett Favre has been less involved than many expected, but I feel the strategy Brad Childress uses is a good one and should ensure Favre stays healthy and on top form for the game-winning moments where it really counts. There is no doubt that his experience on the field gives the Vikings an added dimension. He has completed a league best of 37 of 48 passes so far this season.
I would love to see San Francisco prove that they are a team to be reckoned with this season and I think they have it in them. It will be a tough test, but the odds on offer make that risk an inviting one at the moment.
The handicap market is set at +6.5 with the odds around [1.98]. This might be a good bet if you feel that the 49ers need a little boost.
San Francisco are available at odds of [3.55] in the Betfair winner market, with Minnesota sitting at [1.38]. I feel there is great value in the 49ers' odds here, either for a straight bet or for trading. Personally, I will be trading.
