NFL Week 3 Betting: Tennessee Titans @ New York Jets

Graham Lewis previews the week 3 NFL clash between the Titans and the Jets.

Few would have predicted that the Titans would be without a win going into week three of the season. Last Sunday saw them beaten at home by the Houston Texans, and now they must face the in-form New York Jets. This looks set to be a great contest and the odds on Betfair are truly mouthwatering.

The Titans defence is giving them big problems so far this season. Both weeks have seen them concede 300+ yards. Defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil is in his first year and must already be feeling the pressure. In many ways this is an ideal defence for the Jets to face as it should give them fewer problems than the Patriots last Sunday.

Chris Johnson will be looking for a repeat of his performance from last Sunday. He looked on form and made 284 yards. Rex Ryan's Jets won't be giving him quite so much freedom on the field, but he is a tough man to stop. It will be worth checking the Betfair market for 'C Johnson Rushing Yards' before the game to see if there are any value odds opportunities to take advantage of.

The Jets lived up to all of their talk last week. They played a great game against New England and continue to impress. This week though the talk has been on off-field matters. The San Francisco 49ers have accused the Jets of talking to their still unsigned rookie wide receiver Michael Crabtree. This is an allegation that they deny but it has kept Ryan answering questions about it rather than concentrating on this week's game.

Mark Sanchez is proving to be the right decision at quarter back for the Jets. His play is well thought out and mature for only his first two games in the NFL. Even with a touchdown ruled out last Sunday, the Jets never seemed to be having big problems moving the football. The under/over passing yards market for Sanchez is set at 200.5 for this game and is another worth checking for value on Sunday.

The Jets should do a much better job of holding the Titans offence than the Texans did. They will need to keep the Titans from putting too many points on the board early in the game, because if it ends up being a points-fest the Titans will probably win the game.

This is a game where I am really struggling to pick a winner. The systems at Grubber's Betting Tips have picked the Titans but gut feeling is making me think twice. Thankfully now that we can trade rather than just put straight bets on there is no need to pick early.

My strategy here would be to take the generous early odds on the Titans (back bet) and look to trade out during the game (lay bet). I will be looking to get out as early as I can with a decent profit on either outcome, because there is a chance that greed will lead to loss in a game like this.
