MLB Preview: Must Win For The Twins

The Betting Advantage looks at the final game of a four-game series between two American League Central rivals.

It all comes down to this for the Minnesota Twins. They must beat the Detroit Tigers today to keep their playoff hopes alive after losing two of the first three in this series.

The Twins will send Scott Baker to the hill facing elimination. Baker is 14-9 with a 4.48 ERA on the season, but has been shaky as of late. The right-hander looked less than impressive in his last outing, in which he gave up four earned runs in just over six innings of work to a light-hitting Kansas City Royals team. His start before that was at home against these Tigers. Baker didn't make it out of the fourth inning after giving up four earned runs on eight hits. The 28-year old took the loss in that contest to even his career record against the Tigers to 4-4.

Nate Robertson will take the mound for the Tigers as they hope to clinch the division today. Robertson picked up a win in his last start against the Twins when he was the opposing starter to Baker. In that game, Robertson went five innings, allowing two earned runs on just five hits.

The Twins will again be without Justin Morneau, who is out with a back injury.

I feel you are getting great value with the Tigers here. Detroit is actually a home dog here, surprising since they have won 33 of their past 50 at Comerica Park. You can back them for [2.16] on Betfair, the world's largest betting exchange.

You may also get some value betting the under in the total runs market. In Minnesota's past 31 games the under is 22-9. On the other side the Tigers have gone under the total 23 out of their past 33 home contests against a team with a winning record.
