MLB Betting: Chicago White Sox v Boston Red Sox

The Betting Advantage looks at the first of a four game set between the Chicago White Sox and the Boston Red Sox in order to find some MLB betting value.

Here we go; I think we have some value. The Boston Red Sox host the Chicago White Sox in the first game of a four game series tonight at Fenway Park. The current odds on Betfair have the Red Sox at [1.54]. You have to get a piece of this.

Let's break down the matchup. We have the Red Sox at home, where they win nearly two-thirds of the time. Boston's record at Fenway is 39-20 this season. Also, they are starting Clay Bucholz. Bucholz is really coming on for the Red Sox. He has gone at least six innings in each of his last three starts.

Last time out he picked up the win in Toronto as he held the Blue Jays to one earned run over six innings. Previous to that was his last home start against the Detroit Tigers. In that outing he went seven innings, giving up just five hits and one earned run. This guy will baffle the White Sox bats all night.

Looking in the other dugout, the Chicago White Sox are two games above .500. Their road record stands at 27-31. On the hill tonight for the White Sox will be Jose Contreras. The six-foot-four righty is 5-11 with a 5.13 ERA in 19 starts for the White Sox this season. These numbers get worse on the road. Contreras is 2-6 with a 5.98 ERA away from U.S. Cellular Field. When facing the Red Sox in his career he has an ERA of 8.82 in 50 innings of work.

The Red Sox are a must bet tonight. It is likely a good idea to sprinkle a little on the over too. I think Contreras will get beat up bad. Betfair has the total at 9.5 with the over at [1.86] at the moment.
