Mariners Attempt to Avoid the Bronx Brooms

The Betting Advantage takes a look at the upcoming clash between the Yankees and the Mariners.

The New York Yankees are riding hot right now as they have won seven straight. Everything is coming together for the American League East powerhouse. One through nine this could be the best hitting ball club in the majors.

Alex Rodriquez is swinging the bat great right now. The star third baseman has hit four homeruns over the past six games. After missing the start of the season following his hip surgery A-Rod feels stronger and more energized. He may be benefiting greatly from sitting out two games on June 19th and 20th.

The Seattle Mariners have now lost ten straight games in New York. They have dropped the first two in this series and will look to salvage a game tonight, but it will not be an easy task.

They will face Yankee starter C.C. Sabathia. Sabathia has solid numbers this year with a 7-4 record and a 3.55 ERA. The six-foot-seven lefthander had to leave his June 21st start against the Florida Marlins due to tightness in his bicep. However, in his last start against the New York Mets he looked great allowing three hits and one earned run over seven innings.

Sabathia is known for being a workhorse as he rarely goes less than seven innings. This sets up great for a Yankee club who has one of the best closers of all-time in Mariano Rivera. If Sabathia can get the game to the ninth with a lead, Rivera will usually finish it off.

Seattle will counter with Jason Vargas. The southpaw has also been good this season but his numbers dip on the road. His stuff may not be enough to hold New York as the Yankees are 14-7 this season versus lefties.

I like the Yankees to keep rolling by completing the sweep against the Mariners tonight.
