D-Rays Hope to Keep Rolling Against Rangers

The Betting Advantage takes a look at the first game of three in the Tampa Bay, Texas series.

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays hope to bounce back after suffering their first loss in eight games as they start up a three game set in Arlington against the Texas Rangers. The Devil Rays struggled out of the gate this season but look to be turning things around as they push for a playoff spot. Getting to the playoffs isn't easy in the tough American League East.

To try to get back on the winning track Tampa Bay will send Scott Kazmir to the mound. Kazmir is partially responsible for the Devil Ray's slow start as he presently carries an ERA above seven. However, after spending five weeks on the disabled list the young lefty returned Saturday with a solid outing. Against the Florida Marlins Kazmir allowed two runs over five innings which resulted in a 3-2 Devil Ray win.

If Tampa Bay is going to contend this year they will need Kazmir on top of his game. Last season Kazmir was the leader among starters with a 3.49 ERA.

Kazmir has been solid against the Rangers throughout his career. In seven career starts against the Rangers the Texas native is 4-0 with a 2.09 ERA. Last season he won all three of his starts against the Rangers.

Tommy Hunter will toe the slab for Texas in this one. Hunter has started just two games this season, coming out with one loss and one no-decision. Last year with the Rangers Hunter started three games with opponents hitting over .400 against him.

Hunter will be trying to win his first Major League Baseball game tonight on his birthday. I think he is going to have to keep waiting as Tampa Bay will take care of the Rangers tonight as the Devil Rays look to go 3-0 after being shutout.
