This is an intriguing match up because Ryan Dempster has to be getting frustrated at the run support he's received over his last few appearances. While he's only given up 6 Earned Runs in his last 32.2 innings pitched (spanning 4 games), he's only received a total of 12 runs from his offense, 7 of those coming from his last win May 30th, a 7-0 victory over the Dodgers. Since that game, he's 0-2 with 2 no-decisions. He's doing what he can this season and will hope that his team can contribute offensively when they face the Chicago White Sox at US Cellular field on Saturday. And while the Cubbies don't have to travel far in this one, Dempster won't mind as he's a rare case of having a lower ERA on the road (3.63) then at home (4.14). He's also limited batters to a mere .196 AVG against him during afternoon games. Dempster will bring his 'A' game and there are good reasons to be optimistic about the Cubbies in this game, despite the fact that they are facing Mark Buehrle and his solid 7-2 record on the season. For one thing, Mark's career ERA against the Cubs is a poor 4.57. Also, the Cubs have hit well this season against southpaws, with Milton Bradley hitting .327, Ryan Theriot at .306 and Derrek Lee hitting .289 for examples. But the X-factor in this game is the fact that, since it's in an American League ballpark, the DH rule will be in effect and the Chicago Cubs have the perfect player for that position. Young Jake Fox was hitting over .400 in the minors this year before getting called up earlier in June. Unfortunately for him, despite his awesome bat, his defence is questionable and the Cubs don't have anywhere to put him on the field. This is the perfect series for the Cubs who will look to get back in contention after a largely disappointing season thus far. With Dempster pitching well + the Cubs ability to tackle lefties + Jake Fox, that equals a win for the Cubs on Saturday.
